PSA and MPET donate €15,000 to the country’s largest soccer club

PSA Antwerp and MPET donated €15,000 to the ‘City Pirates’ during a joint visit by their management. The donation is part of an existing partnership between the organizations and marks the conclusion of the local implementation of PSA’s regional ‘Moving For Charity’ campaign, through which the company further highlights its local social responsibility.

Moving for charity

With the ‘Moving for Charity’ campaign, both companies show that their reach extends beyond the port terminals, and that sports pay off. The initiative allowed employees of PSA and MPET to participate in sports activities or tournaments for two weeks. Every sporting minute was converted into a monetary amount. By the end, a total of €15,000 had been collected.

Locally rooted

The proceeds of the campaign go entirely to the ‘City Pirates’, a soccer club with 1,645 players that has long enjoyed the support of the port partners and helps local children and young people with their personal development. On September 24, PSA Belgium Managing Director Edward Tah and PSA Antwerp CFO David Van Eynde, together with MPET CEO Johan Van Daele, visited the City Pirates in Merksem to hand over the collected amount to Michiel De Visschere, Managing Director of the City Pirates.

After the handover, a short presentation followed about the operation and development of the Antwerp club, which uses soccer as a driving force to set up various social initiatives for young people with fewer opportunities.

As a leading company in the port, we believe it’s our responsibility not only to make an economic contribution but also to play a social role within the Antwerp community. We’ve been supporting the City Pirates for some time already, but this visit really touched me personally. As a sports fan, I know how powerful sports can be for society, helping people step away from the pressures of daily life. What the City Pirates are achieving here is truly inspiring.
