PSAU Award for University of Antwerp Student Louise Cerpentier
PSAU Rewards Young Talent!
Yesterday, PSA University Antwerp Campus presented the "PSAU Award 2025" to Louise Cerpentier (23) from the University of Antwerp. Louise impressed the jury with her master's thesis “Insetting in Maritime Transport.” With this award, now in its fourth edition, our education department aims to recognize outstanding master's theses within the Maritime and Logistics Management (MLM) program. The master’s program enhances students’ knowledge in transport and logistics and is aligned with various bachelor’s and master’s degrees across Flanders. It emphasizes four key aspects of the transport sector: economics, legal frameworks, technology, and sustainability.
Louise Cerpentier: “The maritime sector faces a major sustainability challenge. For my thesis, I explored insetting, an approach where companies invest in emission-reducing projects within their own supply chains. This goes far beyond simply offsetting emissions. It’s about collaboration, building sustainable partnerships, and seeking solutions that offer both ecological and economic value. During my conversations with experts, it became clear how differently insetting can be interpreted: each actor has their own perspective and faces different challenges. This diversity highlights just how complex and relevant this topic is for the future of sustainable transport.”
Our link with PSA is particularly valuable because it aligns perfectly with our vision of training future managers.
An Siebens, Manager PSA University Antwerp Campus: “Like the University of Antwerp, PSA wants to support students and highlight projects like this. Louise’s thesis stood out to us because it addressed a current, complex, and still-evolving topic: carbon insetting. This relatively new concept was not only placed within the broader context of sustainability and decarbonization, but also explored in relation to innovations in regulation, business models, digitalization, and technology. A sincere thank you as well to our colleague Francis De Ruytter for reviewing and expertly assessing this thesis!”
Dr. Valentin Carlan, Program Director of MLM at the University of Antwerp: “Our link with PSA is particularly valuable because it aligns perfectly with our vision of training future managers. We don’t just want to teach students theoretical concepts, we want to show them how these concepts are applied in the real world.”
