New rail connection MPET/Q1742 - Venlo - Duisburg

20 October 2017 | As from Mid-October MPET/Q1742 is directly connected by rail with Venlo and Duisburg. During the start-up phase MPET/Q1742 will be served once per week, calling on Tuesday in Antwerp.

“For Venlo, Logistics Hotspot Nr. 1 of the Netherlands, the port of Antwerp is a strategic partner. This upgraded rail product, now offering a direct connection to the single largest container terminal in Europe, is a milestone for our region”, says Hans Cabooter. Step-by-step the port of Antwerp is gaining market share in this region which traditionally was only intermodal linked with the port of Rotterdam. The port of Antwerp is paving the way to become a synchromodal alternative for Venlo and its logistics operators, either by rail or barge.

Onwards, this new rail connection also links MPET/Q1742 with Duisburg. The Port of Duisburg is the world's largest inland port and as such a direct rail connection with the single largest container terminal in Europe could not lag behind. From Duisburg an impressive pan European network of rail origins/destinations is available.
