Second ultra-modern workshop for the maintenance of Rolling Equipment at MPET

21st January 2019 | Today, ATS opened the doors of a second brand new garage at MPET. The new workshop was built on the east side of the Deurganckdok at quay 1718, to maintain all Rolling Equipment of this part of the MPET terminal.

With a height of 26m and a length of 61m, the new workshop offers space for simultaneous maintenance of 6 straddle carriers. The total investment amounts to 5.2 million euros. The garage was built in 8 months and was coordinated completely by in-house experts.

At the end of 2018, the first Rolling Equipment garage already opened its doors located at the west side of MPET, at quay 1742, offering space for simultaneous maintenance of 24 straddle carriers. Today, its ‘smaller brother’ opened the doors and features the same state-of-the-art equipment, such as a sophisticated distribution system for oil, cooling water, compressed air and grease and a nitrogen generator for inflating tires. Also a roller bridge and two warehouse elevators for optimum use of the available space were built in.

Again, a lot of attention was given to the environment as only green electricity coming from a wind farm at the Belgian coast is being used. In addition, an environment park was set-up for the sorting and recycling of waste materials, and tools such as fork and scissor elevators are gradually being switched from diesel engines to electric motors. The garage also has its own water purification installation, where rainwater is being recovered and used for the steaming of straddle carriers in the dedicated car wash.

ATS employs around 370 specialists, 20 of whom will be working in the new garage located at the east side of MPET. Currently, ATS is still looking for about 10 new colleagues (mechanics, assistant mechanics and intervention technicians), that will be deployed at the Rolling Equipment and Crane Service department.
